While it's possible that they could be Gray Jedi during the New Republic era, it was confirmed at Star Wars Celebration 2023 that they'll be in league with Morgan Elsbeth, who herself serves Grand Admiral Thrawn, the galaxy's Heir to the Empire. Looking at Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati in the new Ahsoka trailer, it's currently unknown why they're both wielding orange lightsabers. The Legends character Kyle Katarn also had an orange saber for a brief period of time. Furthermore, Jedi Master Yaddle also wielded an orange blade in Legends, though the new Star Wars canon replaced it with a green blade seen in Tales of the Jedi.

Jedi Master Plo Koon of the Jedi Council had an orange lightsaber in Legends comics with the Stark Hyperspace War before transitioning to yellow as seen in various games, and then to blue in Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones and the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series (his canon color). However, there were also a handful of Jedi who initially had orange lightsabers as well. As such, their orange lightsaber blades were as rare as the Gray Jedi themselves, representing their middle-ground approach to understanding and wielding the Force, existing between the red of the Sith and the yellow often used by the guards and scholars at the Jedi Temple. Rather than the Knights of the traditional Jedi Order, Gray Jedi had a foot in both sides of the Force and hadn't committed fully to either the light or the dark. In Legends, orange lightsabers were most often wielded by Force-sensitives who identified as Gray Jedi. Given this, Baylan and Shin should be considered the first official Force wielders to truly have orange lightsabers in live-action. At the very least, the game confirms orange kyber crystals do exist just as they did in the prior canon before Disney known as Legends. However, the events and characters in the game are indeed canonical to the overarching Star Wars continuity. This means Kestis wielded an orange saber as much as he did any other color (whatever was selected for him).Īs a result, Cal Kestis is debatably an orange-saber wielder (with the aforementioned caveat). However, the word "technically" is key, as players were able to choose from a variety of unique colors. A Padawan survivor of Order 66, Kestis was first introduced in the Jedi: Fallen Order video game as he sought to evade the Empire while hoping to revive the Jedi Order. In the current Star Wars canon, the only known Jedi to wield an orange lightsaber is technically Cal Kestis.
